Galaxy Popcorn
Galaxy popcorn is a creative, colorful popcorn snack that's perfect for parties or movie nights. This recipe used melted chocolate to give the popcorn its cosmic colors, and edible glitter and sprinkles to add a final touch of sparkle.
When you want a snack that's out of this world, we've got you covered with our recipe for Galaxy Popcorn. This colorful, glittery treat looks like it came from another galaxy. Perfect for movie night snacking, birthday or space themed parties, or really anytime you want something sweet and crunchy.
What's even better than the taste is how easy it is to make. We start with out mushroom kernels because they pop up fat and round, ideal for candy coatings. Once we have it popped, it gets a cosmic makeover with white chocolate, edible glitter and fun, galaxy themed sprinkles. We color the chocolate in three batches - purple, dark blue and lavender - to mimic the swirls of color in a galaxy sky. After we drizzle on the colors and add the sparkle and sprinkles, we let it sit for a few minutes to let the chocolate harden. Then break it into clusters and serve it in a bowl. Or eat it right off the sheet pan. We will not judge you.
When it comes to food colors, we prefer to work with gels. Getting the deep tones of blue and purple can require a lot of liquid colors which can affect the flavor and potentially make the chocolate seize up. But just a couple of drops of gel colors will provide a lot of pigment.
Next we recommend layering the drizzle. Start with one color, let it set for a minute, add another color, let it set, and so on. Take a look and decide if it needs more blue, more purple the lighter lavender and, if so, go back for a second pass. Laying the colors will create more depth and that fun, galaxy effect. And, finally, don't be stingy with those sprinkles.
We love this recipe for serving at a space themed party or for Halloween. And don't forget to make extra, place it in clear bags tied with a silver ribbon and hand them out as take-home favors.
If you're making it for your family as a snack and have leftovers (we, personally, never do), just store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. But whether it's family movie night or a cosmic party, this recipe will be a truly stellar crowd pleaser.
