Our Trick or Treat Popcorn Balls are a fun Halloween snack where every bite is a surprise - some sweet, some spicy.
These homemade popcorn balls are a delicious throwback to the days when Halloween treats were made in the kitchen, not just picked up in candy aisles. While they aren’t meant for handing out to trick-or-treaters at the door, they’re perfect for Halloween parties, movie nights, or spooky snack tables.
The “treat” balls get a drizzle of white chocolate and a dusting of sweet Dell Cove® Chocolate Caramel Seasoning, while the “trick” balls come with dark chocolate and a fiery hit of our Spicy Cajun Seasoning. Each bite keeps guests guessing: Is it sweet…or spicy?

Made with our popcorn and assorted Halloween candy. The treat balls are drizzled with white chocolate and sprinkled with chocolate caramel popcorn seasoning and the trick balls are drizzled with dark chocolate sprinkled with spicy Cajun popcorn seasoning.
In a large pot, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Simmer over medium-low heat, stirring often, until the sugar dissolves. Stir in butter, vanilla, and salt until smooth. Remove the pan from heat.
Step 2: Coat the Popcorn
Add the popped Dell Cove® Mushroom Popcorn to the syrup mixture and stir until evenly coated. Let cool slightly before adding candy.
If it cools too much, gently rewarm over very low heat for a few seconds, then remove from heat.
Step 3: Add the Candy
You will want to stir in Halloween candies once the mixture is warm but not hot. This keeps the candy from melting.
Spray a 2-oz scoop with neutral oil, then scoop portions of the mixture and press into balls with your hands. Work quickly while the mixture is still pliable.
Step 4: Decorate the Balls
Melt the dark chocolate chips in the microwave and drizzle over half of the popcorn balls. Sprinkle with Dell Cove® Spicy Cajun Seasoning for the “trick” version.
Next, melt the white chocolate chips and drizzle over the remaining popcorn balls. Sprinkle with Dell Cove® Chocolate Caramel Seasoning and add candy eyes for the “treat” version.

FAQ
Q: How far in advance can I make popcorn balls? A: You can make them up to 2–3 days ahead. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
Q: Can I freeze popcorn balls? A: It’s not recommended. Freezing makes popcorn chewy and the candy decorations sticky.
Q: What if my popcorn balls won’t stick together? A: Make sure to press them while the mixture is still slightly warm. Lightly oiling your hands and scoop helps the popcorn bind without sticking to you.
Q: Can I swap the candy? A: Yes! Use mini candy bars, sprinkles, pretzels, or your favorite Halloween candy mix. Just avoid adding candy while the syrup is still hot, or it will melt.
