Frequently Asked Questions

Can't I just recycle these pouches on my own?

Yes! Our pouches are recyclable. But we can help you make sure your packaging stays out of our oceans and landfills. We have found that not every local recycling program can handle every type of plastic out there, and will dump it into landfills. We can help you make sure that doesn't happen.

I lost my mailing form. Can I get another one - or what is the address where I should mail my empty pouches?

Need to fill out the form again? No problem. Just head over to this page here.

Just need the mailing address? Great! Send your empty pouches to:

Dell Cove Spices & More Co.

What happens to my empty package when I send it in?

We collect the packaging at our warehouse in New Haven, Indiana. Once a quarter, we will drive up to the Brightmark recycling facility in Ashley, Indiana, to drop off the empty packages. Brightmark takes all sorts of plastic - including straws, plastic wrap, food packaging and even children's toys that have been thrown out.

Once there, Brightmark's staff shreds the packaging, dries it and crushes it into pellets. The pellets are then heated and vaporized in an oxygen starved environment - and the vapor is captured and cooled.

That liquid is then converted into wax - which is being used by candle makers in California - and a commercial grade ultra-low sulfur diesel, which can be used by farmers to run their tractors and combines out on the farm, as well as truck drivers hauling your packages across the country.

Diesel? I thought diesel was dirty?

Modern diesel engines are actually more efficient than gasoline engines - meaning they use less fuel, run longer and emit less carbon dioxide than gasoline engines. And such engines are getting cleaner, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

Diesel engines often are used in semi trucks and heavy equipment on a farm because they generate far more torque - which means they can push harder, haul more weight and handle heavier loads.

Is diesel perfect? No. But think of this as a transition fuel, as older diesel engine technology is phased out among equipment manufacturers, and newer electric engines become more powerful and commonly used. Plus, it's giving plastic waste a second life - and more importantly, keeping it out of landfills and our oceans.

Why are you doing this?

We think it's the right thing to do - not only for our family, but for everyone. It's also personal. Patricia grew up in Southern California, and had asthma as a child. So did some of her childhood friends. The smog in Los Angeles was so bad at times, her teachers would keep students inside all day - and yet, she and other kids still had trouble breathing.

The planet's resources aren't infinite and we want to do our part to help. It's really that simple.

Can I send multiple packages in one envelope?

Absolutely! Send as many as you like. While this program is new, we are still working out the process for getting the packaging back to us. Have an idea how to do this in a better way? Please send us an email at hello@dellcovespices.com and share your thoughts. We'd love to hear from you!

How will you deal with the carbon impact of mailing the pouches back to Dell Cove Spices & More Co®?

We are donating a percentage of our annual sales to individual U.S.-based nonprofit organizations that plant trees and work to protect, conserve, and manage natural resources, to offset our operational carbon footprint and help fight climate change.
