How to Pop Your Christmas Coal Popcorn

How to Pop Your Christmas Coal Popcorn

Whether you've been naughty or nice this year, popping your Christmas Coal popcorn is easy and fun. Follow the directions below to create a bowl of delicious Dell Cove Spices & More popcorn.

The black pearl popcorn kernels range in color from jet black to a deep blue black. What we love about these kernels is that they will look burnt when you pop them - but they're not.

MAKE IT BY STOVE TOP:

Using a 6 quart pan, add 4 T oil (vegetable, peanut or coconut work best) and 4 popcorn kernels. (Essentially, enough oil to cover the bottom of the pan.)

Cover the pan with a lid and place it over medium heat. When these kernels pop, the oil is extremely hot. VERY CAREFULLY add about 1/3 cup of kernels, re-cover your pan and shake the pan back and forth, to coat the corn kernels and prevent burning. When the popping sound slows to one pop every 3 - 5 seconds, remove the pan from the heat and put the popcorn into your snack bags or favorite bowls, and enjoy!

MAKE IT WITH AN AIR POPPER:

Put a scoop of popcorn kernels into your air popper. Cover the popper, turn on the machine and place a bowl in such a way to catch the popped corn from your popper. Pop your kernels and enjoy!

MAKE IT IN THE MICROWAVE WITH A BOWL:

Place 1/4 cup of popcorn kernels in a 2 1/2-quart microwave-safe bowl. (Be sure to use a bowl specifically made to work in the microwave or the popcorn could take significantly longer to pop - or the popcorn may not pop at all.) Cover completely with a microwave-safe plate. Microwave on high until the popping slows down to about 3 to 4 seconds between each pop. Be sure to watch this carefully, otherwise you can easily burn the popcorn. Remove just the plate using a potholder or thick dish towel, being VERY CAREFUL to avoid direct contact with the hot steam from the bowl. Then, remove the bowl and enjoy!

MAKE IT IN THE MICROWAVE WITH A PAPER BAG:

Put 1/4 cup of popcorn kernels into a plain lunch-sized paper bag. (No dyes or printing or wax or foil! Just paper.) Fold the bag's opening twice, to keep closed, and place the bag into the microwave.  Microwave on high until the popping slows down to about 3 to 4 seconds between each pop. Be sure to watch this carefully, otherwise you can easily burn the popcorn. When done, remove the bag and VERY CAREFULLY open the bag to release the hot steam, and enjoy!
